Building A Killer Portfolio

In our last article ‘Building Portfolio: The Basics”, we’ve guided you what to include in your portfolio. This round, we’re going to tweak your portfolio and make it better.

As we’ve agreed, if you’ve just launched a new business, it is essential to create a powerful company portfolio in order to make a great first impression on prospective customers.

The goal of a company portfolio is to create a presence for your company in the market and to show how your business differs from other competitors.

Business owners often think that a sophisticated portfolio with fancy language is the way to go but that it’s not necessarily the case. People often find it difficult to understand and this can ruin your opportunity to collaborate with potential clients due to their lack of understanding of your portfolio.

Just like a resume, you should write each business portfolio with an aim in mind. You must carefully develop a strategy and map out the essential characteristics that need to be highlighted to your prospects.

A great portfolio is crucial for any business as it reaches out to customers and gets them interested in your brand. In this article, we’ll walk you through various aspects of how to write a powerful company portfolio for businesses across industry.

Concise

You should keep it concise. You would want to engage and retain their attention by keeping it simple and short. You don’t need to list every single client you’ve had in the last 10 years. Show that you respect their time and you don’t want to waste it.

Portfolio doesn’t need a lot of flowery language and decorations as well to show you are the best. Let the numbers speak for themselves.

And avoid idioms and jargon as well. People from your industry may understand the terms but a fourth grader might not. It is always better to state the mission statement clearly.

Creative and attractive

Use a clean and proper format, font and style. Some companies tend to get carried away with their creativity and going for extravagant visual appeal. This doesn’t exactly enhance or transmit the information clearly. Pick a format that has lines and standard fonts to visually organize your profile.

Use accurate, up-to-date details. 

You need to keep your portfolio current. Make sure you have the most recent numbers you can find. Prospective clients aren’t interested in your performance from five years ago. They want to know how you will deliver now.

And also be honest with the details. The portfolio should reflect your company’s aesthetic as well as values.
